Privacy
How this site handles personal data. Last updated 12 May 2026.
Who runs this site
nescient.ai is run by Chris Downs, based in the United Kingdom. I'm the data controller. Contact me at chris@datadowns.com.
What I collect
Almost nothing. This site has no user accounts, no sign-up forms, no newsletter, and no advertising. There is no tracking pixel, no cookie-based analytics, and no third-party tag.
Three things do involve personal data:
- Request logs. When you visit a page, the hosting provider (Cloudflare) records standard request information — IP address, user-agent, request path, timestamp — to deliver the page and protect the site from abuse. These logs are retained briefly and are not used to build a profile of you.
- Email. If you email me, I keep the email until I've replied or it stops being useful. I don't add your address to any list. There is no list.
- Owner-only storage. The site uses your browser's local storage to remember a passphrase that lets me edit the site from inside it. This only applies to me. If you've never typed the passphrase in, nothing is stored on your device.
Cookies
None. This site does not set any cookies, and does not use cookie-based analytics.
Analytics
This site uses Cabin, a privacy-focused analytics service. Cabin does not set cookies, does not collect personal data, does not fingerprint browsers, and does not build profiles of individuals. It reports aggregate counts of page views and referrers — useful for me to know what people read, with no way to identify who you are.
Cabin is a sub-processor under my arrangement; their own privacy practices are described at withcabin.com/privacy.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to be informed, to access your data, to have inaccurate data corrected, to have your data erased, to restrict processing, to data portability, to object, and rights related to automated decision-making. Email me at chris@datadowns.com to exercise any of these. I'll respond within a calendar month.
You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office if you think I've mishandled your data.
International readers
The site is hosted on Cloudflare's global network, which means a request from outside the UK is served from a Cloudflare data centre closer to you. Cloudflare's processing is covered by their public sub-processor terms.
Changes to this notice
If anything material changes — particularly when analytics goes live — I'll update this page and bump the date at the top.
